The MSc includes two specializations:
- Clinical Diabetology.
- Therapeutic Education in Diabetes Mellitus.
The aim of the MSc program is to provide postgraduate level education in Diabetes Mellitus. Through the MSc, graduates acquire a strong scientific foundation, new knowledge, experience and skills that will enable them to provide excellent care and management of Diabetes Mellitus-related conditions, while gaining a valuable foundation for successful careers in the private, public and academic sectors. In the national health system, there are currently a significant number of centers and clinics for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, most of which are understaffed and have significant shortages of qualified scientific staff (doctors, nurses, dieticians, psychologists). In the private health sector as well, the rapid increase in the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus is creating and nurturing the conditions for the creation of specialized staff for Diabetes Mellitus.
The total duration of studies is three academic semesters. The first two semesters include the teaching of the courses, while the last semester includes the preparation of the thesis or clinical practice. Courses are held on Friday afternoons and Saturdays in order to enable working students to attend them.
Graduates of the Departments of Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, Dietetics, Midwifery, Psychology and other relevant scientific disciplines of Higher Educational Institutions in Greece or recognized peer institutions abroad, as well as Higher Military Schools are admitted to the MSc. Graduates of the MSc are awarded a Diploma of Postgraduate Studies (MSc) in «Care in Diabetes Mellitus» and in one of the two specializations, in «Clinical Diabetology» or in «Therapeutic Education in Diabetes Mellitus».
